From the 13th of March on, there is a new regulation about energy savings in the Spanish Building Code. The main changes are:
- Scope: in the 2006 regulation, the application was due to new buildings and big renovations (actuations over more than 1000 m² of surface or 25% of the total façade area; now it is compulsory for the same uses and for small renovations (even substitution of windows for particulars).
- Limitation of the consumption for the whole building, according to the total surface and the climatic zone. This clause is in line with the European directive of near zero energy buildings.
It is expected that the concept of near zero energy building for Spain will be defined in the next revision of the regulation.
