Qualicoat UK & Ireland membership continues to strengthen as the members meetings continue to be very well attended. The latest powder coating applicator to join the association is Glazing Vision of Diss in Norfolk.
Glazing Vision produce specialist, bespoke roof lights and have supplied products across the globe for all types of building projects. Their own in-house coating facility has been designed to suit their specific needs for powder coating large fabricated items.
Jeremy Dunn, Glazing Vision’s Technical Director, takes up the story, “Our primary reason for joining Qualicoat UK & Ireland was to demonstrate our capability to provide a quality coating on our products using a chrome free pre-treatment whilst bringing the whole painting process in-house. Our current plant was installed and commissioned approximately 3 years ago; at that time we decided to adopt Akzo Nobel powder for our architectural finish, using their Interpon D range.
“As market leader in our field and supplying quality products in to the high end of the market we wanted to be able to offer the benefits of a 25 to 30 year warranty on our paint finishes. Having made the decision to adopt this standard and receive the guidance from the Qualicoat Specification, it also provides our own peace of mind that we are unlikely to be faced with a paint failure at some time in the future for a process that is still relatively new to us.
“We know from our involvement with other Trade Associations that you gain most benefit by getting involved as with all these things you usually only get out as much as you are prepared to put in and so it is important to us to attend meetings and contribute where we can.
“Our pre-treatment process is non-chrome and we have invested in a ‘Vixen Phoswash’ machine that cycles through the various stages of the pre-treatment processes without the requirement for a number of large pre-treatment tanks. This is a more energy efficient process and suits our lower volume production needs. The reason we wanted to bring the painting process in-house in the first place was because most paint plants are set up for painting bar lengths and many of the welded assemblies that we manufacture would not fit into other applicators pre-treatment tanks. Our pre-treatment process can handle frames up to a maximum of 6m x 2m x 2m.”
Glazing Vision are one of a growing number of product manufacturers who are adopting the Qualicoat Standard for the coating of their manufactured system in-house. Being a member of Qualicoat UK and Ireland opens up a wealth of experience in powder coating technology and is a big benefit of membership.
