Cityhall Utrecht

"City Hall Utrecht stands on a promising, yet highly complex location: partially adjacent to and partially on top of the new station hall of Utrecht Central Station. The composite façade, 17650m2, forms the outer shell. This façade incorporates 5 city windows, 756m2 of framework for a roundabout view on the city. The atrium, 5511m2 of curtain wall, provides the incidence of light to the core of the building.Scheldebouw have executed the curtain wall conform their standard method, and the production of the elements took place within the Permasteelisa Group. The elements were installed in the building first, and solar panels are incorporated in the outward slope façade. For natural ventilation purposes; narrow, floor to ceiling hung windows are incorporated.

The composite façade, consisting of a total of 1200 elements, has been realized by in-house production. With this Scheldebouw has ventured into the world of Composite Facades. At our newly furnished production location in Heerlen (Netherlands), we are able to quickly anticipate all queries and techniques, being the largest producer of Composite Facades.
City Hall Utrecht also posed a logistical challenge. Of the 1200 elements, 415 are identical in terms of size and production. The remaining 785 elements are all unique in terms of shape, size and layout. Consequently, the installation sequence was the guideline for the correct production sequence. The city windows have been placed within traditional framework.

Even in terms of the inside finishing of this building, Scheldebouw could present their expertise and skills. The entire steel structure in the façade area is concealed behind the custom produced composite shell finish. It was quite a challenge, to position the entire steel structure, outside as well as inside, in the proper alignment and direction.
