Universitas Indonesia (UI) released the results of UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on 17th January 2014. This is the fourth year of this ranking which compares universities efforts towards campus sustainability and environment friendly university management. The results were announced by the university Rector, Prof. Muhamad Anis and the Chairperson of UI Greenmetric Prof. Riri Fitri Sari accompanied by Prof Gunawan Tjahjono and Dr. Nyoman Suwartha at Central Administration Building of UI, Depok.
This year, 301 universities from 61 countries took part, which is an increase from last year with 215 universities from 49 countries. University of Nottingham (UK) was ranked first with a score of 7,521, followed by University College Cork National University of Ireland (Ireland) (score 7,328) and Northeastern University (USA) at the third position with a score of 7,170.
Apart from USA, Japan, UK and other European Countries that have participated in the last year's ranking, the 2013 results include universities from Marocco, Egypt, Namibia, Cyprus, Slovenia, Estonia, Ukraine, Portugal, Philippines, Iran, Jordan, Panama and Pakistan.
The results are computed from information provided by universities online. These year the information are organized under Six (6) main categories. These categories, and their weightings, are: Setting and Infrastucture (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste management (18%), Water usage (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education (18%).
On November 21st, Universitas Indonesia held International Workshop on UI Greenmetric 2013. In this workshop, universities with best position and achievement in UI GreenMetric shared their efforts in improving sustainable environment in their campuses. The conference program comprised of keynote talks, invited speakers talks, and discussion among many universities.Prof. Serban Aga?i, the Vice President of International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) acted as keynote speaker. The invited speakers are?Mr. Chris Jagger of the University of Nottingham, Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono from Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Suwanna Ruangkanchanasetr from Mahidol University,?Prof. Dr. Josef Gl?ssl from Universit?t fur Bodenkultur Wien, Prof. Dong Sing Wuu from Da Yeh University, Prof. Chiara Mio from Universit? Ca' Foscari di Venezia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi.The workshop is a continuation of UI Greenmetric program to contribute to the global consortium on the will that sustainability will be everyone?s main agenda in this decade.
