Actualisation 1a

The building sector is responsible for much environmental damage. The damage is mainly caused by transport and thus CO2 emissions, energy use and Construction- and demolition waste. Besides, buildings last longer structurally, but the functionality loses its value during the time. This results in an intensive renovation or demolition, that costs much energy. The VMRG and Slimbouwen® are doing a research if continuous updating of buildings can lessen this problem.

The research question for this study is as follows:
"To what extent is it feasible to update the building envelope in a short continuous cycle, so that it keeps up the current quality level and takes in account the need of the user, reserves its value and stays durable, without costing too much on a long term? "
